Adin fire. . .
A HISTORIC HOME in downtown Adin was destroyed by fire Sunday, but no injuries were reported. The man living in the home, Peter French, got out safely after being coaxed by neighbors and a Deputy Sheriff. According to Undersheriff Tex Dowdy, the fire also burned one of Frontier Net’s fiber option cables, knocking out Internet and some cell service in Modoc Sunday afternoon, until about 2 .m Monday morning. Dowdy said the cause of the fire was being investigated. Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading through the downtown area. The house was built in the early 1900’s. Local crews assisting with Camp Fire

There are several crews and firefighters from Modoc assisting with the efforts to control the Camp Fire in Butte County.
Modoc County Undersheriff Tex Dowdy said the Sheriff’s Office is sending one deputy and five members of the Modoc Sheriff’s Posse to help search for survivors or human remains in Paradise and to assist where needed.

Wild horses available beginning soon

After years of preparation and a month-long effort by the Modoc National Forest to gather wild horses, it is now time to place gathered horses into homes and sanctuaries across the country
There were 932 horses gathered from the Devil’s Garden Plateau Wild Horse Territory, and many foals are expected to be born in holding.
More than 650 Devil’s Garden horses will be available soon at the Litchfield Corrals for adoption through the BLM. Learn more about the BLM adoption process at https://www.blm.gov/programs/wild-horse-and-burro/adoption-and-sales/how-to-adopt.

Vogee injured in jail attack

Murder suspect Robert Vogee sustained a broken jaw when a fellow Modoc County Jail inmate allegedly assaulted him October 23.
According to Undersheriff Tex Dowdy, the inmate, Marcus Williamson, will be charged with assault resulting in great bodily injury.

County Clerk explains early election results

Modoc County Clerk and elections officer, Stephanie Wellemeyer was concerned about the way the public deals with early unofficial election results and wanted to explain the entire process.
“There seems to be some confusion regarding the election results, so I thought it would be best if I provided some details on how we finalize an election, she wrote last Friday. “The night of the election we post what are called Unofficial Reports, this means they have not been certified and there are still procedures that need to be followed before those results can become finalized and official.”
