Position description: Under the general supervision, performs journey level work in the operation of heavy equipment used in the construction and maintenance of County roads and facilities; and performs related work as required. This is an Open Competitive/Countywide Promotional recruitment being conducted to fill multiple current full time vacancies in the Community Services Department - Roads Division, including positions, which will work out in Gerlach, NV on a full time and continuous basis. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. THE MODOC COUNTY ROAD Department has one opening for a Road Maintenance Worker I or II in Surprise Valley. The job is in the construction, maintenance and repair of roads, bridges and rights-of-way. Job and salary level will be determined by applicant experience. Both I and II require using and maintaining commonly used hand and power road maintenance tools and equipment; making accurate ar-ithmetic calculations; understanding and following oral and written directions; performing heavy physical labor on a regular basis; preparing basic records and reports of work performed; and working without close supervision in standard work situations. In addition, level II requires the ability to operate and maintain a variety of light and heavy construction equipment, and the ability to direct the work of a crew on a project basis. The position requires graduation from high school or equivalent. If selected, applicant will be required to obtain a valid Class A license within 6 months of his/her hire date. The expense of the testing will be borne by the applicant and the applicant will be responsible for finding a suitable vehicle for the driving test (no County vehicle will be used for the driving test).
