This position has management-level responsibility for fiscal and business affairs of the Road Department, with an emphasis on cost accounting. The Fiscal Officer (FO) prepares and monitors the Department budget, and also monitors cost center ledgers for variances, making adjustments where appropriate. This position requires accounting for all costs and revenue collections for the Department. The FO directs the work of technical and office staff to assist with these activities.The holder of this position assists external and County auditors with financial reporting. Financial forecasting and planning is also a frequent activity of the FO. Ensuring that Road Department activities are in compliance with codes, regulations and County procedures are important FO tasks. The FO must also stay abreast of financial software that will enhance Department performance. Qualifications: Knowledge of principles and practices of general and governmental accounting, job costing, inventory methods and budget development.
