THE MODOC COUNTY ROAD Department has two openings for a Road Maintenance Worker I or II one in Alturas and one in Lookout. The job is in the construction, maintenance and repair of roads, bridges and rights-of-way. Job and salary level will be determined by applicant experience. Both I and II require using and maintaining commonly used hand/power road maintenance tools and equipment; making accurate arithmetic calculations; understanding and following oral and written directions; performing heavy physical labor on a regular basis; preparing basic records and reports of work performed; and working without close supervision in standard work situations. In addition, level II requires the ability to operate and maintain a variety of light and heavy construction equipment, and the ability to direct the work of a crew on a project basis. The position requires graduation from high school or equivalent. If selected, applicant will be required to obtain a valid Class A license within 6 months of his/her hire date. The expense of the testing will be borne by the applicant and the applicant will be responsible for finding a suitable vehicle for the driving test (no County vehicle will be used for the driving test).
